“He knows how to write songs… Hickum’s clear, crafted lyrics stand out from the pack…It’s the freight-train-birthing buffalo in his voice that makes the songs hit you in your heart.”
- Ken Maiuri (of both Pedro the Lion and the Fawns), Hampshire Gazette
“Pure thrills…Great country hooks… Exudes confidence in and love of a well-constructed and deeply felt song.”

That’s right, the Colonels. Like Elvis and fried chicken. It works.
About the record: it was recorded mostly with Dave Chalfant (the Nields, Stephen Kellogg & the Sixers, Winterpills, etc) up at his place in Conway MA. He’d done one of Adam’s solo records so that’s how we knew him. And he did a great job and the songs came out sounding just like they do in our heads. That is: great country/folk songwriting, inspired lead playing, plunky banjo in all the right places, a solid rhythm section and a voice that does Drew’s Nashville roots proud.
A brief/incomplete list of the nice folks who showed up at the studio to help out: Bruce Tull (Scud Mountain Boys) played pedal steel. Kate Lorenz (Rusty Belle) sang backup. Ben Laine (Fancy Trash) played some drums. And most of the Alchemystics played various rhythm instruments on the three tracks we did at their Amherst studio.
We play pretty regularly in Northampton MA, which is where we all live, and in the surrounding cities and towns of New England. Come see us sometime.
